    Ordering Tens (2-digit numbers)

Put two digit numbers in order from smallest to biggest.

    Student Tips:

    • Look at the first digit first (the tens place)
    • 23 comes before 31 because 2 is less than 3
    • If first digits are the same, look at the ones: 24 comes before 27
    • Think: 10s, then 20s, then 30s, etc.

Teaching Instruction: Use base-10 blocks to show tens and ones visually. Practice with numbers in the same decade (20-29) first, then mix decades. Emphasize “tens place first, ones place second.”
