Ordering Millions (7-digit numbers)

Put numbers in the millions in order from smallest to biggest.

Student Tips:

  • Look at the millions place first (first digit before the comma)
  • 2,345,678 comes before 3,123,456 because 2 < 3
  • Read left to right: millions, then thousands, then ones
  • Ignore the commas – they just help you read the number

Teaching Instruction: Use real-world examples (city populations, distances). Practice reading numbers aloud first. Show how commas separate groups of three digits. Focus on the left-most digits being most important.
