Ordering Tenths (1 decimal place)
Put decimal numbers with tenths in order from smallest to biggest.
Student Tips:
- Look at the whole number first: 2.7 comes before 3.1
- If whole numbers are the same, check tenths: 2.3 comes before 2.7
- 0.8 is bigger than 0.2 (8 tenths vs 2 tenths)
- Think of money: $2.30 comes before $2.70
Teaching Instruction: Use decimal grids or base-10 blocks showing tenths. Connect to money (dimes = tenths of a dollar). Use number lines marked in tenths. Show that 2.7 means “2 and 7 tenths.”
