Writing Numbers in Words: Up to 1000

Description: Strengthen number word skills by writing numbers up to one thousand.
Student Tips:

• Write the hundreds first (e.g., 345 = three hundred …).

• Then add the tens and ones as needed (three hundred forty-five).

• Remember: in American English, no “and” is used before the tens (say “three hundred twelve,” not “three hundred and twelve”).
  Teaching Instruction: Use place value charts (hundreds, tens, ones) to model writing big numbers. Have students practice by breaking numbers into parts (400 + 50 + 7 = four hundred fifty-seven).
