Introducing the Table:
A dinner table could be a chart with all of your meals planned in advance for the week. A phonics table can be a physical piece of furniture with four legs.
Not really, but if you bear with me, and that silly little picture, then I can draw you to the conclusion that this phonics chart can be the ‘table’ that you are to set all of your word study instruction.
The other analogy that I like to make is that the Periodic Table of Phonics is the road map that will accompany you throughout the journey of reading as it helps to navigate your way.
The purpose of the table is to provide a consistent visual framework that students can create an organized location in their mind they can go back to and help build their understanding of phonics concepts.
